| An illicit love affair with plantain lilies
My love affair with the hosta began over seven years ago, as I approached a perennial garden, a mower and its sure demise. The garden, although overgrown and forgotten, still stood proud and to the back was a regal gentleman all dressed in blue. Standing nearly three feet tall and four feet wide, he instantly caught my eye. With shovel in hand, I made my way for the introduction.
"Well hello Blue Mammoth," I said with a smile, and the rest as they say is history!
This seven year journey has taken him from state to state and finally to Pelham, New Hampshire where he now stands proud, catching the eye of every passerby. Blue Mammoth was the first in my nearly five hundred named cultivar collection. Although I have no formal training in landscape design, my art background of over twenty years has given me an eye for color and texture, and found objects create a certain whimsey throughout the gardens.
Blue Mammoth and I hope to see you soon!
